Enrolment

We can help you with your enrolment enquiries anytime throughout the year.

Starting school

Your child can start Kindergarten at the beginning of the school year if they turn five on or before 31 July in that year. By law, all children must be enrolled in school by their sixth birthday.

Because students start new work in their new class at the beginning of the school year, it would be an advantage for your child both socially and educationally, to start school as soon as possible in the new year.

Applying to enrol in primary school

If your child is currently enrolled in a NSW public school, contact us to discuss the enrolment procedures and obtain the necessary paperwork.

If your child is coming from a non-government school, contact us to make an appointment to discuss your child's potential enrolment.

If your child has a temporary visa or visitor visa you will first need to apply to enrol by contacting the temporary residents program who will give you forms to bring to the school.

Enrolment Appointments

For your appointment, if your child has not been previously enrolled in a NSW public school, you will need to bring these documents with you:

  • your child's birth certificate or identity documents
  • proof of student's address - originals of different documents such as your council rates notice or residential lease and electricity bill
  • Immunisation history statement based on the Australian Childhood Immunisation Register (ACIR
  • family law or other relevant court orders (if applicable

If your child is not a permanent resident you will also need to provide:

  • passport or travel documents
  • current visa and previous visas (if applicable).

For children already enrolled in a NSW public school we only require:

  • proof of student's address - originals of different documents such as your council rates notice or residential lease and electricity bill
  • family law or other relevant court orders (if applicable)
  • transfer certificate

It's important that you tell the principal if your child has any special circumstances, allergies, health or medical conditions, before your child starts school.

After your appointment with us, you may be asked to complete an application to enrol in a NSW public school form [English PDF 1.16MB] and return it to us. We will notify you of the result of your application. Please note that this form must be completed in English. Help is available for parents who do not read English. There are also translations of the enrolment application which may help you fill out the form in English.

Kindergarten Enrolment

Enrolments for Kindergarten are taken the year before the child starts school. Please ensure that you complete the Enrolment form. Kindergarten children must be five years old by the 31st July in order to be enrolled. You will need to provide the following documentation prior to your child starting school.

  • Birth certificate or passport
  • Complete Immunisation certificate
  • Proof of residential address, (eg original copies of council rates notice, lease agreement, electricity account, statutory declaration etc)

Students arriving from overseas will need to bring their passports and visas when enrolling at school and special conditions may exist for some visa holders. Students on Temporary Visas are required to contact the International Business Unit to determine whether or not they are required to pay a fee to the Department of Education and Training.

Yagoona Public School’s enrolment policy gives priority to students living within the school’s enrolment boundaries. Students who live outside the local area may be enrolled at the school as long as there are places available for in-area students, or in exceptional circumstances. Decisions regarding enrolment will be made by the school’s enrolment committee.

Kinder Orientation and Transition to School

Kindergarten Orientation and transition days are held each year in Term 4, through our ‘Welcome to School Program’. This allows the new students to become familiar with the school prior to their first day of school.

Parents and new Kindergarten students are invited to attend Yagoona Public School’s ‘Kindistart Program’. While children are becoming familiar with the school environment through classroom activities, we will be running workshops for parents. These workshops are aimed at providing parents and carers with valuable information to support families in this extremely important transition. Please see calendar on website or school newsletter for dates.

Kindergarten – The First Day

Kindergarten children commence school the day after the rest of the students in Years 1 – 6. Please check the online calendar for the correct date but this information will be communicated to parents during the orientation process.
