Fun Day 2013

It was a warm sunny day- the perfect kind of day for the Yagoona Public School annual Fun Day. Every year Stage 3 work very hard to organise a day of treats, games and rides for the whole school to enjoy.

There was something for everyone and for every budget. A book of ten tokens could get you the traditional favourites such as icecream, a bag of pop corn and even a guess in the jelly bean or teacher baby photo competitions. You could also have a go on the Gladiator Challenge, the water gun fight, sponge throwing competition, Just Dance on the Wii, Pin the feature on the teacher, facepaint, nail colour, hairspray and sock wrestling. The P&C kept everyone fed and happy by running the barbeque.

Check out the photo gallery to see all the fun!

Lunch and Learn

Keep posted for our next session.

Crazy Hair Day

On Thursday the 31st of October it was a strange day at Yagoona Public School, and not just because it was Halloween. The SRC was hosting a fundraiser for our new environment group- the Yagoona Tree Troopers.

It was Crazy Hair Day and both students and teachers came with some absolutely ridiculous hairstyles. There were colours, wigs, rainbow hair ties. Even some gravity-defying hair from our SRC representatives.  Check out the photos in the photo gallery.

Creative Arts Extravaganza

The buzz of excitement hit its peak with the rolling out of the red carpet in Yagoona Public School Hall. Months of rehearsals, prop making and creativity had culminated in two very special creative and performing arts nights. What a way to finish the term!

On Tuesday the 17th September Yagoona kicked off with the Years 3-6 performances and art auction. The live drama performances consisted of “Johanna’s Journey” 5/6M, “The Eureka Stockade” 5G, 6C’s version of “Little Red Riding Hood by Roald Dahl” , “How the Moon Regained Her Shape” 3P, “James Cook Boldly Goes Down Under” 4H & 4VM and “The End of the Hobyahs” by 3C. As well as live performances there were two amazing videos. The very scary “Lucius” by SCS and “The Werewolf Knight” by 5B.

Thursday night’s performance began with the Stage 1 dance group rocking out to Justin Bieber’s  ‘Beauty and the Beat’  then a drama performance “Mrs Wishy Washy” by KI & KM. Next there was a short film “Where is the Green Sheep?) by K-6J & K-6S. Followed by KK & KA with “Who’s in the Shed?”

The other films on show were “Doll Dilemma” by SCJ and “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by 1S, 1D & 1H. The night finished off with some very entertaining performances from 2B “Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse”, 2K “Night Shapes” and 2C “This is Your Life- Humpty Dumpty”.

A fundraising Art Auction featured in both nights. Both parents and community members battled it out to gain a piece of authentic Yagoona Public School art. More than $2000 was raised which will contribute to future creative and performing arts programs at Yagoona.

Congratulations to Toula Finka, Nigel Mc Clifty and Alex Karpin for organising two fantastic nights.

Across the Universe Book Parade 2013

This year’s Book Week celebrations culminated on Thursday, August 22nd with our annual Book Character Parade. Students and teachers came to school dressed as their favourite book characters and paraded to thunderous cheers and applause. The parade was a vibrant expression of how much we enjoy books, and the costumes looked simply fantastic! It was great having so many parents in the audience and Peach Tree Kindy come and join in as well. Thanks to the students, staff and families of Yagoona Public School for making our Book Character Parade such a special occasion!

Schools Tree Day

Each year, around 2500 preschools, kindies, primary and high schools across Australia take part in Schools Tree Day. Students nation-wide have learnt how to plant, and care for the seedlings they grow. This year Yagoona Public School was no exception. Students, teachers, parents and even our local Member for Parliament Tania Mihailuk came together to get their hands dirty and plant some trees.

New seedlings were planted in our school garden and the bush play area.
